Integrity.

With the starting of a new year, comes the almost-required self/life-re-assessment phase.  We really want to take stock and clean house in our physical spaces, our emotional lives, our work lives, etc.  In addition to wanting to look back over ourselves and what we could be doing differently to better ourselves, we also start looking at our environment, and those around us.  Are the people we choose to surround ourselves with actually good for us, or are they really bringing us down in one way or another?  Do they provide a positive environment suitable for cultivating passions and motivating progress, or do they actually tend to stifle such flames?

The qualities we embrace and hold so dear for ourselves – are we seeing those same characteristics reflected back to us by the people around us?  Should we be?

Hmmm…something to think about…

The quotation below was spotted on the wall at an auto repair shop a few months ago by a friend of mine.  Saying it made him think of me, he wrote it down, and shared it with me later.  I think it’s absolutely brilliant.  I urge you to really read it, and really take in what it’s trying to get across.  It says some super-potent things I assure you…

—————————————————————————————————————————————–

“When you are looking at the characteristics on how to build your personal life, first comes integrity; second, motivation; third, capacity; fourth, understanding; fifth, knowledge; and last and least, experience.

Without integrity, motivation is dangerous; without motivation, capacity is impotent; without capacity, understanding is limited; without understanding, knowledge is meaningless; without knowledge, experience is blind. Experience is easy to provide and quickly put to good use by people with all other qualities.

Make absolute integrity the compass that guides you in everything you do. And surround yourself only with people of flawless integrity.”

A very special thanks to Luke for having been that friend a few months ago.
